DEEP SEE

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

The magic is at :45 seconds.

I’ve had this conversation with one of you guys before and it goes like this. Photography is something i really enjoy and i’ve thought about what it would it take to actually be in the environment or see it from any perspective. After all you could in theory place multiple cameras/sensors in an environment that would allow you to do this, similar to motion capture but live. Now there’s always something new and cool on the net but after having seen this video my mind started flying.

Background as to what is going on in the video. This guy hacked together multiple XBOX Kinect(s), which of course track color and depth. The information is collected and reassembled together, in turn allowing him to view his environment, at almost any perspective in real time. It is rough but this is the future, if the technology can be ironed out. This isn’t video games, it’s the ability to view a live event in real time from anywhere in the room…. in our future, it’s application will be sports, musical shows, porn, military, security, education, live theater, live whatever. I am impressed.
